The seeds of plantain (mainly from Plantago ovata or Plantago major) are small brownish or black seeds, oval and slightly shiny. They are especially known as psyllium when they come from Plantago ovata.
Size and appearance: very small (about 2 mm), light, with an outer shell rich in mucilage.
Texture: when in contact with water, they swell and form a viscous gel.
Taste: neutral, slightly herbaceous.
